India squandered a commanding position, collapsing from 430 for 3 to 471 all out in a span of just over 11 overs. Shubman Gill's dismissal triggered the slide as England’s bowlers, led by Josh Tongue, cleaned up the lower order.
In response, England lost Zak Crawley early to a magical delivery from Jasprit Bumrah.
But Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett steadied the innings with positive intent, guiding the hosts out of early trouble before the end of second session.

Josh Tongue Cleans up India’s TailÂ
Just as it seemed Rishabh Pant's hundred has taken the game further away from England, India’s innings unravelled rapidly. The last seven wickets fell for just 41 runs as England fought well after Pant and Shubman Gill’s centuries.
Coming after the lunch break, India hoped that Ravindra Jadeja would take the innings forward. However, the southpaw chopped the ball back on the stumps as Josh Tongue dismissed him after taking the wicket of Bumrah earlier in the session.
Tongue continued to dent the Indian innings, picking the wicket of Prasidh Krishna as the visitors folded at 471 runs, collapsing from 430/3.
The top two scorers for India were Gill and Pant, who scored 147 and 134 runs respectively. For England, Stokes and Tongue bagged four scalps each.
Zak Crawley Falls, But Ollie Pope & Ben Duckett Rebuild for England
After an extended lunch break due to rain, Jasprit Bumrah struck straightaway. He sent Crawley packing with a peach of a delivery. The Englishmen played across the line and nicked the ball to Karun Nair, who was stationed at the first slip.
It was all India could manage. They were left searching for another wicket throughout the session. England found their feet after Crawley’s dismissal with Duckett and Pope stitching an unbeaten 103-run partnership.
Duckett got a lifeline in the seventh over as Jadeja dropped a catch at backward-point. There were a few plays and misses but not enough to create any excitement.
The duo batted calmly and hit their shots, mixing caution with the right dose of aggression.
Indian bowlers, particularly Prasidh and Mohammed Siraj, were wayward in their lines and lengths and paid the price for it as Duckett and Pope made merry.
Duckett brought up his fifty with a sweep off Jadeja in the 22nd over.
At tea, England’s score reads 107/1. Duckett and Pope are batting on 53 and 48 runs respectively.
