IPL 2025 - GT vs CSK: Pitch Report

Gujarat Titans (GT) are all set to host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 67th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 25. With a top-two finish in sight, the Titans have everything to play for, while CSK are already out of the playoff contention.

Gujarat Titans have enjoyed a superb campaign so far, registering nine wins from 13 matches. Another win would take them to 20 points, which would confirm their place in Qualifier 1, giving them a cushion of a second shot at the final.

Much of Gujarat's success has been built on a formidable top-order. Openers Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan have scored 636 and 638 runs respectively, and are the leading run-getters. Jos Buttler has piled 533 runs this season but as he will leave for international duty ahead of the playoffs, the Titans will be keen to make the most of his availability in their final league match.

GT’s Prasidh Krishna is the joint-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2025 with 21 scalps.

That said, their momentum took a hit in their last outing. Chasing a mammoth 236-run target, Gujarat fell short by 33 runs against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Meanwhile, the Super Kings are enduring a season to forget. With only three wins in 13 games, they have already bowed out of the playoff race, which is an unusual position for one of the league’s most successful franchises.

The 2025 campaign has been marred by inconsistency and tactical misfires. Even the mid-season return of MS Dhoni to the captaincy could not spark a turnaround. With nothing but pride on the line, CSK are expected to play freely and bank upon names like Ayush Mhatre, Urvil Patel and Dewald Brevis in this final outing.

While this might seem like a mismatch on paper, CSK will be motivated by legacy and the chance to finish the season on a high. GT know it is never an option to CSK lightly, considering the fact how they lost the 2023 final from a strong position.

GT vs CSK Pitch Report: Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad has behaved like most of the other IPL venues. Batting has proven to be easier in the first innings with the teams breaching the 200-run mark very often. Fast-bowlers might find some movement early on but it will not pose a lot of challenge. As it is a day game, the prospect of batting first is even more tempting. Five out of six matches played here this season have been won by the sides batting first.
