Sam Curran did everything right for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Punjab Kings (PBKS), his former franchise, on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the result did not go in their favor.
CSK became the first team to be eliminated in this IPL season. For the first time, they lost five games at the Chepauk, and for the first time, they did not make it to the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.
With 8 losses from 10 games, CSK find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2025 points table as they could not defend what was a good total of 190 runs put on the scoreboard.
Sam Curran Scored His Fourth IPL Fifty
Meanwhile, Sam Curran scored his fourth fifty with the bat and his first this season as he scored 88 runs off 47 balls. He added a crucial 78-run stand with Dewald Brevis (32 runs off 26 balls). The southpaw was finally dismissed in the 18th over of the CSK innings.
His celebration after he reached his fifty was one of note. After reaching his fifties, Sam Curran was seen making a phone call to someone at the CSK camp. Curran was released by PBKS last season, and he played just four games for CSK this season. His reaction was perhaps a sign that he should have played more games this season for Chennai.

After his dismissal, in the 18th over, while walking back towards the dugout, Sam Curran was seen making an aggressive gesture towards the PBKS dugout. He also said something towards the dugout as well. The video has gone viral on social media.
CSK's innings in the final three to four overs were derailed by Yuzvendra Chahal, who took the second hat-trick of his IPL career. He ended with figures of 4 for 32 from three overs after remaining wicketless for his first two overs. His hat-trick triggered a collapse for CSK from 172 runs for 4 wickets to 190 runs all out.
"I think the batting - yes, it was the first time we put enough runs on the board. But was it a par score? I feel slightly short. Yes, a bit demanding from the batters but I feel we could've got slightly more. I feel we need to take our catches. The partnership between Brevis and Sam was excellent. We didn't play the last four deliveries, and the second last over four batters got out. In close games, those 7 deliveries mean a lot" said CSK skipper MS Dhoni as he reflected on the loss.
