South Africa scored 78 runs in the first session to move up from 43 runs for the loss of four wickets to 121 runs for five wickets at the end of the first session of play on Day 2.
In the process, the Proteas have managed to bring the deficit below 100 runs. As of now, heading into lunch break, South Africa trail by 91 runs in comparison to Australia's total of 212. South Africa at lunch are 121 runs for five wickets.
As many as 14 wickets fell in the first day of the WTC 2025 final at Lord's. Australia were bowled out for 212 runs inflicted by a Kaios Rabada fifer. They hit back hard with the ball dismissing four SA wickets by the end of the day's play.

Bavuma-Bedingham Stand Takes South Africa Forward
In the first session on day two, South Africa started strongly with overnight batters Temba Bavuma (36 runs off 84 balls) and David Bedingham (39* runs off 95 balls) adding 64 runs for the fifth wicket.
The partnership frustrated the Aussie bowlers as the SA batters looked to get them tiring. In the end, it was a fabulous piece of fielding at covers from Marnus Labuschagne that saw the back of Bavuma. Pat Cummins picked up his opposite number as the partnership which was building well was finally broken.
Since then, Bedingham has added another 27 runs from 10 overs with Kyle Verreynne (11 runs off 30 balls). Australia introduced Nathan Lyon very early on day two. He did get some spin in the five overs that he bowled but did not pick up a wicket yet. The Aussies also introduced Beau Webster who went for 20 runs off his three overs before the lunch break.
The Proteas chasing Australia's 212 are still behind by 91 runs after the end of the first session. It is they who have to make the play as South Africa will bat last on this wicket and will be chasing a target. With two more sessions left for the day, it will be interesting to see their mindset and approach.
Australia Play The Waiting Game
Speaking about Australia, their bowlers kept things tight during the first 10 overs despite them not picking up too many wickets. The wicket of Bavuma came at the right time for them that helped them wrestle the control back in the game.
